This is a view from the center of S Main St looking north, just south of State St, in downtown Akron. The turreted "Akron Furniture" at the far left has long since been replaced by Scott's 5 & 10, which in turn has been replaced by the current Akron Aero's baseball stadium. The "O'Neil's" department store building was vacated in 1997 and now houses law offices and a restaurant. The tall white building in the background was First National Tower, now FirstMerit Tower which houses a bank, by the same name, and many other offices. The white building on the right, across from O'Neil's was Polsky's department store. It closed in 1978 and now is used by the University of Akron. The Mayflower Hotel in the right foreground was Akron's premiere hotel at the time. It is now an apartment building for low income people. The far right Sears store moved to Chapel Hill Mall in 1965. The building now houses temporary services.
