Below Chateau Queyras, in Ville Vielle is a sundial originally painted in 1843 by Zarbula. It is high on a large building facing across to the river. The sundial was restored by Remi Potey in vivid colours in 1995. The dial faces south declining east. This sundial, a circle in a complex frame is one of Zarbula’s more restrained but common designs. There are none of the usual folk art elements, but is signed ZGF and dated 1843. The motto is the usual putdown: SANS LE SOLEIL NE SUIS REIN ET TU SANS DIEU TU NE PEUX RIEN. The building was the resturaunt “Le Temps de Viver” but is under renovation as a residence with six apartments.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
