This crisply painted weathervane depicts a horse-drawn carriage; The combination of this type of wagon and team was commonly called a "coach and four".

The alpine chalet-style lodge, built in 1934, serves as the toll house for motorists entering the Veteran's Memorial Highway, which winds to within 300' of the 4650' peak of Whiteface Mountain, one of the Adirondack high peaks.

This is an unusually scenic spot; nearby Lake Stevens acts as a reflecting pool for the alpine lodge, the mountain and a tiny stone arch pedestrian bridge.
