This is a nice sculpture of Moses placed on a very busy corner in Edmond, in a landscaped corner of the church property.
Moses was one of the most important prophets of Jesus' time. His Hebrew mother hid him when the Pharaoh of Egypt ordered all newborn Hebrew boys to be killed. He was placed in a reed basket and floated down the Nile River in the hopes he would find safety. The baby was found and adopted by the Pharaoh's daughter. Moses' sister watched the entire incident unfold, and approached the woman asking if she could use the help of a Hebrew woman to nurse the baby. Jochebed (Moses' mother) was hired as his nurse, but he was raised as the Pharaoh's daughter's son, and younger brother to the future Pharaoh of Egypt. After Moses reached adulthood he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, and killed the Egyptian. Fearing he would be put to death by the Pharaoh for this offense, he fled. After helping a group of women, he was taken in by the family and became a shepherd for their father. He married, raised a family, and stayed there for 40 years.
One time God spoke to Moses in a burning bush, gave him his name, and commanded Moses to go to Egypt and free the Hebrews from slavery.
Other miraculous things Moses did include transforming his rod into a serpent, healing lepers, producing water from rock, turning water into blood, and of course parting the Red Sea.
Moses is probably best remembered as having received the Ten Commandments directly from God, to bring to the people of Israel.
