The First Baptist Church
of Macedon was organized
on this site in the home of
Lemuel Spear, a veteran
of the Revolution.
Lemuel Spear and his family moved to this site about a mile north of the village of Palmyra in February, 1790. He and his family came on a sled from Cummington, Massachusetts, with two yoke of oxen, sheep, and cows. He had purchsed land at twenty cents an acre from Isaac Hathaway, and became the third settlor in the area. There were nineteen members of the church at the time it was organized in Lemuel Spear's home.
