Penick Park is a spacious area off of Fretz Ave., between 2nd and Danforth. It's got a nice steel bridge that catches your attention when you drive by. There is a small playground at the front entrance (west side of the park), and across the bridge there is a larger playground as well as a huge open space for soccer practice or football games.
The City of Edmond now prohibits smoking in city parks.
**Thank you to hamquilter for bringing to my attention that there is an error on the marker at Penick Park. According to the headstone at David Penick's grave, he was born in 1965, not 1956.

A Place to Grow
David E. Penick Park
David E. Penick (1956-1996) a former resident of the Bigbee Sante Fe Addition was a member of the Amateur Softball Association, coached little league softball and was involved in supporting youth athletics throughout Edmond. On May 16, 1996, David Penick was killed in an automobile accident.
A friend of the Penick familiy requested the neighborhood park to be named in his memory. In November 1996, the City Council named Penick Park to "recognize the outstanding contributions of David E. Penick during his lifetime to youth sports and other voluntary acts made to the community."
A Community Development Block Grant Funded this neighborhood park, completed in 1997.
