R.C. Gossett (1902-1995) moved to Edmond in 1918. He was a charter member and longtime secretary of the Edmond Kiwanis Club, as well as the first secretary of the Edmond Chamber of Commerce. He served as Edmond's City Manager for two and a half years from 1942-1945.
R.C. Gossett was the manager of Edmond's Long Bell Lumber Company for 35 years prior to his retirement. Over the years, R.C. Gossett sponsored free meals for more than 3,000 young people at C.S.U. in connection with the Methodist Wesley Foundation. Opened in 1972, Gossett Park was named in his honor by the City Council. Gossett Park was established as a neighborhood park to provide recreational facilities for children, families and CSU students.
