On the old presbytery and customs house in Cervières, is an early (1839) Zarbula. The circular (horseshoe) was one of his early styles. Some of his other style features are evident: signature and date, sun face, colours circle in frame, equatorial line etc. Evelyne and Norbert Peyrot restored the original in 2000.
The motto is typical: "Sans le soleil, je suis rein, et toi sans Dieu, te ne peu rein." (Without the sun I am nothing, and you without God, you are less than nothing.)"Forte Tua" (Be strong).
Cervières is on the north side of the Col d’Izoard. The drive over the high col and down to Arvieux is spectacular. The sundial is on the main street of the old town just north of the river.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
