In the hamlet of Bouchier, high on an alp above the Durrance valley are a pair of sundials by Zarbula in 1853 on the corner of the chapel. The south east dial was restored before 2005. The south west dial face remains blank but the gnomon is in place. An iron brace supporting the stone wall for the structure intrudes. SAF 05 151 08
Access to Bouchier is somewhat difficult. Along the old highway on the west side of the river from Vallouise to St Martin, there is a local gravel track. It is rough and narrow, not suitable for new rental cars. We parked and hiked up. Stop at the little St Hippolyte chapel at 44° 50.66 N, 6° 34.389 for a great view of the surrounding mountains and the valley far below. Then hike across the alpine meadow to the hamlet of Bouchier and the sundial.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
