Grandhotel Zlatý Lev (Golden Lion), one of Art-Nouveau highlights of the regional capital Liberec, celebrated 100 years in 2006. The hotel was opened in 1906 on the occasion of the German-Czech exhibition by the Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef I. The hotel is located in the centre of Liberec opposite the town's castle.
The hotel was designed by the architect Anton Worf of Liberec in 1904-1905, and is an excellent example of Art Nouveau architecture from the beginning of the 20th century. Even today, the rich stucco decorations on the façade with motifs of the stylized bodies and heads of lions supplemented with the popular art nouveau floral decorations attract visitors´ attention.
