This sculpture of Joaquin Miller, Poet of the Sierras, resides in Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, California. The statue depicts Joaquin Miller as a bearded man astride a standing horse. The equestrian statue sits atop a rectangular base. The statue is modeled after a miniature by the Joaquin's daughter, Juanita Miller. The sculpture is approximately 8 x 4 x 7 feet and the base is about 5 x 4 x 8 feet
Restoration work was performed in 1968, including coating the statue with pigment and iron filings to produce a patina on its surface.
The status has an inscription in the front of the concrete base that reads:

The sculptor's signature, KISA BEECK, is visible near the horse's right hind foot.
