Per the present pastor, Rev. C. P. Kestner, of New Providence in Surgoinsville. The church was established in 1780 by Rev. Samuel Doak and Rev. Charles Cummings. The current brick sanctuary was finished in 1893. The cemetery has graves dating back to Fevolutionary War soldiers and hold some 26 known veterans of the War Between the States as well as veterans up through the Vietnam War.
New Providence has an active congregation of of 28 members, supporting local hunger mission and missionaries overseas. The church participates in local ecumenical worship with Surgoinsville Baptist and 1st United Methodist Churches.
