The "Ten House" is so named because of the unusual situation of both vehicles bearing the same number, 10. At the corner of Liberty and Greenwich Streets, it is the only firehouse inside the Ground Zero zone, across the street from where the south tower stood.
Ladder Company 10 and Engine Company 10 were the first to respond on 9/11.
The two companies lost 6 men in the disaster. Five were active that day: the sixth, James J. Corrigan, had retired as Captain in 1994, but was working as Fire and Safety Director for the World Trade Center complex. Once a firefighter, always a firefighter.
The firehouse itself was severely damaged when the south tower collapsed.
This memorial is on the wall just inside the Ladder 10 bay.
