At Port Taranaki, tucked away behind the breakwater, next to the Interpretation Centre, is a brass ship's screw as a memorial to a local fisherman.

The screw is mounted on a memorial in the garden outside the small Sugar Loaf Islands Interpretation Museum, in memory of a local fishing hero Loui Kuthy who died in 2004.
