World War I Memorial - Paducah, Kentucky - Smithsonian Art Inventory Sculptures on Waymarking.com

Commemorates the soldiers and sailors who died in World War I. Monument was erected and dedicated by Paduke Post 31 of the American Legion. The City of Paducah appropriated $1,950 for the monument and burial grounds, with matching funds appropriated by the McCracken County Fiscal Court. The monument is of a design by sculptor John Paulding, was cast by the American Bronze Company, and erected by the Beasley Monument Company.

The monument is inscribed as follows

1928 Erected and Dedicated By The American Legion To Our Comrades Of The World War Who Sleep The Long Sleep County of McCracken W.A. Middleton County Judge Ben Weille W.H. Covington D.H. Riley Commissioners and Co-Erectors City of Paducah Ernest Lackey Mayor SGT. George A. Hannin PVT. Jack W. Nelson Ross Rutter E.R. Bradshaw Commissioners and Co-Erectors When To The Last Assault Our Bugles Blow: Reckless Of Pain and Peril We Shall Go.  Heads High and Hearts Aflame and Bayonets Bare, And We Shall Brave Eternity As Though Eyes Looked On Us In Which We Would Seem Fair.
