Larangne Monteglin, the main town of this area of Pays de Buech has a Remi Potey sundial with a difference, a sundial without hour marks. The tourist guide says this particular sundial does not indicate the hours because it is not oriented south. So what? Remi Potey is a skilled sundial designer who can handle declining walls very well. The motto gives the reason why this Madonna and Child image has no hour marks. The motto in French is “D’heures je n’en marque pas car le temp que l’on passe d’aimer ses enfants ne doit pas se compter.” The hours are not marked as the hours spent loving children does not count.
The dial is on a chapel on a side road D601 from the hill towns of Upaix and Le Poét, each with their own great Remi Potey sundial.
Le Laragnais, Val de Méouge is a specific area in the south west of the Pays de Buech that now has many contemporary sundials to augment the historical dials in the area. The local tourist information offered a specific brochure, “Balade et Decouverte au Coeur des Cadrans Solaire.””Explore and Discover the Heart of the Sundial Area”. Many of these are creations of the renown sundial artist, Rémi Potey. Each village competed with their neighbours to sponsor the best sundials. These waymarks will note some examples.
