Erected by Private Taylor Rucks Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy, to commemorate the valor and patriotism of the Confederate soldiers of Washington County. 1861-1865.

Description of monument from Smithsonian:
"Full-length figure of a uniformed Confederate soldier stands atop a tall shaft. The figure wears a wide-brimmed hat and holds his rifle in front of him, both hands around the barrel, butt on the ground. Other uniform items include a bed roll, knapsack, canteen and sheathed knife on his proper left side.
Erected by the Private Taylor Rucks Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy for $4,000 in honor of those from Washington County who served in the Civil War."
