Approximately 30kms south of Pattaya is to be found a large image of the Buddha, carved into a mountain side. This image was created in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the accession of the King of Thailand, Rama 9. It is 130m high and 70m wide at its base. At night it is illuminated (no photos of this, maybe next time). An impressive sight.
This is a major tourist attraction, and the area around is filled with other tourist attractions. Well worth a day visit.
