Cookham Manor is from the 7800 class and was built by Great Western Railway Swindon in 1938. It has a wheel arrangement of 4-6-0 and was withdrawn from service in 1966 entering the Great Western Society collection and being used in preservation in the same year.

This tender locomotive is from a design by Collett in 1938. It was built for lightweight express passenger use on secondary mainlines. It has 2 cylinders which are 18" in diameter x 30" stroke, Stephensons valve gear and a driving wheel diameter of 5'8". The boiler pressure is 225 lbs per square inch, the weight in working order with tender is 108.5 tons and the tractive effort is 27,340 lbs. It has a coal capacity of 6 tons and can hold 3500 gallons of water.

Cookham Manor was withdrawn by British Rail and then obtained directly from them. It is the only locomotive to be acquired in this way. A Society member bought No. 7808 in 1965 and it ran from the Gloucester depot to Ashchurch in steam. Here it lived with No. 6697 and then they both came to Didcot in 1970. This locomotive was highly regarded by its crews for being very sprightly and it had an unusual larger 4000 gallon tender fitted. It has run on many mainline specials but is currently on static status.
