At first, one might think this large object is a metal sculpture consisting of three interlocking triangles all in perpendicular planes. Once one notices the clock numbers on the grounds, it becomes apparent that this is a large sundial, with the sharp metal blade casting a shadow amongst the numbers on the ground. The steel gnomon is 22 feet long, 14 feet high. This sundial is located near the math and computer science buildings on the Mills College campus in Oakland, California. The time appeared to be accurate (excluding daylight saving time).

This sundial is considered a sculpture and is listed in the Smithsonian Art Inventory.

Sundial Type: Horizontal - Flat base, Ground or Pedestal mounted dial plate
