Memorial Tower also known as the Campanile is a 175-foot structure. It was built in 1923 and dedicated in 1926 as a memorial to 1,447 Louisianians who died in WWI. On the rotunda walls are bronze plaques bearing the names of those to whom the Tower is dedicated.
From plaque on outside of building:
CAMPANILE
Erected as an enduring monument to memorialize Louisiana's sons and daughter who died in World War I. This memorial was funded largely from public subscription and dedicated April 30, 1926 by General John r. McQuigg, National Commander of the American Legion.
