The metal plaque reads as follows though the last few words are hard to pick out:
'BAILEY BRIDGE
SIR DONALD BAILEY Kt OBE at the Experimental Bridging Establishment
Christchurch invented a bridging system in 1940-41. Standard
components are used to construct bridges of different spans and forms. During World War II over 200 miles of these bridges were manufactured. The Bailey Bridge was constructed by ..... Storey Ltd.'
