The stone was laid in the 150th year of the RNLI. The building is also home to a shop and historical collection available for the public to view.

Many of the buildings around here belong to the RNLI including the nearby college where there is a public viewing platform where you can watch our lifesavers train.

This stone was laid by the chairman Commander F.R.H. Swann C.B.E. R.N.V.R. on the 30th October 1974 in the 150th year of the foundation of The Royal National Life-Saver Institution
