There are approximately 440 interments here according to my counting. The cemetery is along Church Street in unincorporated Blackwood, NJ, part of Gloucester Twp., Gloucester County, NJ. There are two of these Victorian Age cemeteries on the road, the other belongs to the Presbyterian Church and is about 300 feet away, at the corner. Unlike the Presbyterian Church cemetery, this Methodist cemetery does not have the charm and pizzaz of some of the more ornate and renown Victorian cemeteries such as nearby Laurel Hill or even the one a few hundred feet away. The stones, markers and monuments are relatively modest but well kept up.
There is no cornerstone and by all accounts, the church appears rather new. A call to Reverend Murphy, a parishioner and a historical society member confirmed the age of the church. With no website, it seemed like the dating this site was one big mystery. It seems the original church built in 1836 got a bad case of termites and had to be demolished after 2000, possibly 2001 or 2002. This present building is about 7 years old according to the various sources, and looks it as well.
