The Masonic Cemetery is part of the Fredericksburg Lodge #4 A.F. & A.M. The half acre of land was donated to the local Lodge in 1784 by James Somerville, a Scottish merchant and early mayor of Fredericksburg, and may well be the oldest American Masonic cemetery. It contains over 225 graves.
Some of its famous residents include Bazil Gordon, America's first millionaire, Robert Lewis, nephew and private secretary to George Washington, George Weedon, general in the Revolutionary War, John Minor, general in the War of 1812, and many others.
The cemetery is located at 900 Charles St. in downtown Fredericksburg. Lodge #4 with the help of the James Monroe Museum next door maintain it.
