One of Mary Washington's favorite places to sit and read and reflect was a large group of rocks shaded by oak trees. It is said this is where she frequently prayed for her son's and the country's safety during the Revolutionary War.
The plaque, anchored to the great rocks, reads:
MEDITATION ROCK
HERE

SAFETY OF HER SON AND COUNTRY DURING
THE DARK DAYS OF THE REVOLUTION.
THIS TABLET WAS PRESENTED BY
THE NATIONAL MARY WASHINGTON
MEMORIAL ASSOCIATION
CHARTERED FEBRUARY 22, 1890 - FEBRUARY 22, 1962)
