Popular overlook at Milepost 361.2 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, between Asheville and Mount Mitchell. (This section of the Parkway is closed in winter.) In extended dry periods, water ceases to flow over the 800-foot falls.
The water makes its way to the Swannanoa River, and the falls is in the watershed for the City of Asheville water supply.
In addition to the view from the parking lot, visitors can walk 50 feet to a stone-ringed observation area for a better panorama. The Mountains-to-the-Sea trail passes by, here.
