Lock number 6 is located at Stockport, Ohio along the Muskingum River. This system of 11 locks and 10 dams was built in the mid 19th century to allow water passage from the Ohio River at Marietta to Lake Erie by connecting to the Ohio & Erie Canal at Dresden, Ohio. In the 1920's the lock system here fell into disrepair due to a decline in water travel. They were repaired in the 1960's and are still functional today. They are now run by the Ohio State Parks and can be used by recreational boaters for a fee.
