This simple 10 foot obelisk and unlighted flagpole set is located in the middle of the Melvern Cemetery. The cemetery is at the corner of NW Emporia Street and S California Road west of Melvern.

?This 10 foot obelisk, created by Ferguson & Nettleton of Ottawa, Kansas, is a tribute to the unknown Union soldiers of the Civil War. The marker was dedicated by the Women's Relief Corps - the auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic - the Veteran's Group of the Union Civil War Veteran.
The inscription Reads:
Erected by Women's Relief Corps
A tribute to those patriots who sleep in Southern graves uncoffined, unshrouded and unknown.
