This picturesque Queen Anne style house, perched on a hill overlooking Avalon Bay, is the third oldest building on Catalina Island. Best known as the Holly Hill House, it was built in 1890 by Peter Gano who named it Overlook Cottage.

This is easily one of the most photographed building on Catalina Island, visible from most places in Avalon. Peter Gano, a retired engineer from Pasadena, built this house with help from his horse, Mercury, who hauled the lumber up the hill.
It has always been in private ownership and is beautifully maintained, and is occasionally opened for public tours.
I have not been able to find any information about it's common name of Holly Hill House.
It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.
