This historical marker gives the story of the early fishing camps on the Tyee Spit. These camps have now been replaced with fishing resorts and lodges up and down the coast.
The plaque reads:
"Early sports fishing camp on the Tyee Spit 1890s'
Prior to construction of the Willows Hotel in 1904, visiting fishermen set up camps like this one on the Tyee Spit. Local First Nations people provided guiding services and transportation in dugout canoes. The fishermen in this photo claim to have used silver and copper spoons 3 1/2" long with a single hook "made after the Indian pattern". The pipe smoking gentleman on the left poses proudly beside a 49 pound salmon, while the salmon on the right weighed in at 54 pounds."
