I discovered this superlative after reading the accompanying plaque which explained this find and its significance to the scientific community. William Clark found the first bones of the elk-moose (Cervalces scotti) in 1805, in Big Bone Lick, Kentucky, and delivered the bones to Thomas Jefferson upon his return to Philadelphia. The skeleton in the photo gallery is the most complete Elk-Moose skeleton anywhere! Mr. Elk-Moose was found in Mount Hermon in Hope Twp., Warren County, NJ. William Berryman Scott, a very famous paleontologist of Princeton, New Jersey described the skeleton in 1885. Today this animals remains can still be found across much of eastern North America.
