This monument in Wrigley Plaza along the waterfront in Avalon, on Catalina Island, honors Carl "Mr. Big" Bailey, called the World's First Seagoing Disc Jockey. The station KBIG 740 AM often broadcast from the S.S. Catalina as it cruised the harbor.

"At one time KBIG was one of the highest-rated Beautiful music stations in the country. KBIG began broadcasting in 1952 as an AM radio station originating from Catalina Island off the coast of California. The call letters were named in honor of the station's original disc jockey, Carl "Mr. Big" Bailey. They originally broadcast Big band and new music of the times."

"KBIG AM 740 broadcast from Avalon (Catalina Island). At one time, they broadcast from a ship called the S.S. Catalina. It would broadcast sailing into the Avalon Harbor. The chief host was a gentleman by the name of Carl "Mr. Big" Baily."
