The firehouse was closed in 2005, in an effort to cut cost in a city strapped with few available funds.

Troy Hill was settled in the 1880s by German immigrants.

When the firehouse closed, the firemen place a plaque with the following inscription at a nearby monument:

"this monument was dedicated by troy hill's fire fighters to honor all fire fighters. They were common men dedicated heroic and honor bound. In 2005 after 130 years of service, the city of pittsburgh closed the troy hill station. Those responsible were laggards, dastards, scallawags, and scoundrels. They were cowards, guilty of every crime not requiring courage. Auf Weidersein."
Year of construction: 1901
