Other two hikers in my group already had moved this northbound turtle across the road. Eastern box turtles are commonly seen around the forested roads in this region which is at the state line boundary between the Cherokee National Forest (TN) and the Pisgah National Forest (NC). The dashed line in the Google map is the state boundary, which also happens to be the AT path here. This section of Highway US70 runs between Greeneville, TN to Asheville, NC.
