A total of five obelisks (3 of them short) stand as memorials in a small brickwalled cemetery from the 18th century that served the Carmichael, Wellford, and Willis families.
During the Civil War, Confederate troops used the cemetery to stash ammo and horses behind its walls. In 1862 and 1862 during battles of Fredericksburg, the walls and monuments were severely damaged. They were repaired, but battle scars can still be seen today.
