Saint John has a rich history. When the church was founded in February of 1882, worship services were held in German. As time progressed, worship services in English were added to the German schedule. In the early 1900’s, the German worship services were dropped.
The parish has worshipped in just two buildings. Our first building, bought in a sheriff sale, still stands on Highland Avenue near the Carnegie Busway Station, and is now used as a warehouse.
The congregation moved to its present building in 1929. The Christian Education building was added in 1961. In 1978, the church and education buildings suffered major damage from a fire. In 2004, the church was spared from the flood waters that devastated much of Carnegie and Southwestern Pennsylvania, and became a relief center during the flood recovery efforts.
