The area with more than 1,000 lakes and more than 1 million acres of land. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area is the largest wilderness area east of the Rockie Mountains in the country. With several entry points and more than 1,200 miles of canoe routes there is a trip suitable for all levels of exploring. Trips can range from a couple days, to weeks, to months if desired. The area has a strict permitting system allowing a set number of groups to enter at each entry point each day, this permitting system keeps the numbers of people under control allowing a better chance of a true wilderness experience.
