The pavilion is a memorial to honor the early Chinese settlers who arrived in the area during the late 1800's and early 1900's for their contribution to the development of agriculture, transportation and commerce in the Riverside area. It is located within a few blocks of the original Chinatown which was destroyed by fire in 1885 and subsequently relocated to Tequesquite Arroyo on the edge of town.
