The J.D. Perry Francis Home at 20 Portland Place was built in 1927 for J.D. Perry and Emelie Francis. The house was designed by architects LaBeaume & Kline in a Georgian Revival style.
J.D. Perry Francis was the son of David R. Francis, former Mayor of St. Louis, Governor of Missouri and U.S. Ambassador to Russia. J.D. Perry Francis was a primary with brokerage house, Francis Brothers & Company. He served as a director on boards of several companies across a broad spectrum including railroads, utilities, and banks.
