The shelter was built to commemorate the following:
'To commemorate the Jubilee of their majesties King George V and Queen Mary (1910 - 1935). This rest was given by Wilfrid Vere Doughty, Esq., B.A. J.P. Lord of this Manor.'

On the other side is another plaque:
'Here also was celebrated the Coronation of their majesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth May 12th 1937.'
