The twenty-one World War II Army veterans and two fight crew killed or injured near here on December 8, 1945, when an Army C-47 transport plane creashed in a blinding snowstorm while enroute from Newark, NJ to Seattle, WA. The veterans were from Washington, Oregon, and Idaho and most were due for discharge in Seattle after seeing action in Europe.
