The statue of Samuel Adams is located on the West side of Faneuil Hall, Congress St and North St. The bronze, sculpted by Anne Whitney in 1876, was erected in 1880. The original copy of this statue was made for the National Statuary Hall Collection in the US Capitol.

Samuel Adams, a New England Colonial leader, took part in many of the events leading up to the US Revolutionary War, including being a signer of the Declaration of Independence. The statue shows Adams, with his arms folded, waiting for British response to his demands.

Samuel Adams' family ran a malthouse -- the raw material used in brewing beer.
