Place and Date: At Gettysburg, Pa., 1 July 1863.

Entered Service At: Boscobel, Wis.

Birth: Grant County, Wis.

Date of Issue: 29 June 1866

Date of Death: Jan. 27, 1880

He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery on the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, (July 1, 1863). His citation reads “Unsurpassed courage in battle, where he had both eyes shot out”.

Grave is located in a small country cemetery outside Dorchester, Ne.
