This California Historical Marker #475 is under the tree on the corner of Main and Bedford. Every year on the Friday after Thanksgiving this is the tree that gets "lit" to kick off the holidays. Placerville, was established on the banks of "Hangtown" Creek and was a mining camp. Famous residents included John Studebaker, Mark Hopkins, Leland Stanford, Phillip Armour, Edwin Markham and Snowshoe Thompson.
