Lance Corporal John Robert Kunkel died of wounds from small arms fire on January 3, 1969, in Quang Nam, Republic of South Vietnam. His body was recovered. L/CPL Kunkel’s name is on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., panel 35W, line 27.
This memorial was directed by the California Assembly’s Concurrent Resolution 43, Chapter 220, in 1971.
