This memorial is a World War II torpedo mounted atop a brick pedestal. There is also a torpedo hatch cover mounted on the back of the pedestal. It was presented in November 2001 by the Long Island Base of the United States Submarine Veterans to honor the members of the submarine service.
There are many dedication plaques on this monument. One reads, "Still on Patrol -- U.S. Navy submarines paid heavily for their success in World War II. A total of 374 officers and 3131 men are on board these 52 U. S. submarines still on 'patrol' and lists the names of the subs that did not return.
Another plaque is the USS Flasher Chapter Memorial of the United States Submarine Veterans of World War II placed to honor those who lost their lives in the service. Other plaques are from the New Zealand Returned Services Association, the Australia Returned Services Association and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.
