Two identical guns in front of the State House. The same inscription on both:

What's the significance? Why here?
Short answer: hometown pride.
Admiral George Dewey is best known for his victory* at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War. He was also the only person in history to achieve the rank of Admiral of the Navy, the most senior rank in the United States Navy.
Dewey was a Montpelier native, born and raised. In fact, he was born in a cottage right across the street from where these guns are displayed.
Coordinates are taken midway between the two.
