Next to the rose and herb garden are some bushes that partially cover the grave sites of the dogs that lived in the Hartwood Acres mansion. "Max", "Cricked", "Teddy", "Jerry", are the dog names.
Hartwood Acres is currently a county park in northern Allegheny county. Activities in the park include hiking, bird watching, jogging, mountain biking, horseback riding.
In the summer, a popular outdoor music concert series is held in the large lawn area on the western side of the park.
