Patton's Run Overlook; Nantahala National Forest - Macon Co., NC - Scenic Roadside Look-Outs on Waymarking.com

In 1999, the US Forest Service and the North Carolina Department of Transportation jointly constructed this viewing area and emergency landing along the Nantahala River.

The project was conducted for multiple reasons. Road weary visitors along US Routes 74 and 19 can pull off and stretch their legs while admiring the Nantahala River.

The overlook also allows kayakers and whitewater rafters an emergency landing point if necessary.

Plus the project help prevents the river bank from eroding and keep sediment from going into the Nantahala River for the enjoyment of visitors from both the road and water.
